About the Role

The Carrapateena Team is accountable for delivering value at the Operation in the short, medium and long term, against the needs of all stakeholders. With an immediate and core focus on delivery production outcomes, they have a secondary focus on leading the expansion of the mine by transitioning from a Sub Level Cave to a Block Cave – this will extend the  Carrapateena mine life beyond 2039.

The role of Specialist – Safety is to provide significant health and safety advice across all aspects of Carrapateena including surface and underground operations as well as site services. 

This role provides the opportunity to learn and grow for a person wanting to begin their career in Safety. While there are several desired skills for this role, all skills are able to be learnt on the job with positive attitude and behaviors being critical attributes in this role.

Accountabilities

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Work to align Carrapateena Safety Management System and Risk management approach with the broader BHP process.  
  • Implement critical risk management, Field Leadership and safety strategy for the Operation.  
  • Facilitate compliance to relevant Performance and Process Standards and BHP Requirements  
  • Facilitate the implementation and management of systems and processes for incident management (including investigations, 
  • reporting and action follow-up, investigation training)  
  • Facilitate and lead investigations and risk assessments   
  • Lead and facilitate contractor management forums and audits.  
  • Administrate critical risk management software.  
  • Complete data trend analysis.  
  • Lead projects and engage with key stakeholders to achieve desired goal.  
  • Implement incident and injury prevention strategies by collaborating with key stakeholders.  
  • Assist with aspects of health, hygiene and emergency services.  
  • Oversee the maintenance and improvement of the site Safety Management System  
  • Complete required Safety reporting   
  • Provide in field Safety coaching for site operational leaders.  
  • Utilise and improve safety management tools and systems.  

About You

  • Experience  working  in  Health, Safety or similar roles  
  • Proactively  build  and  maintain positive relationships with stakeholders   
  • Strong understanding of work health and safety legislation  
  • Understanding of safety aspects of underground mining and/or heavy industry (desirable)  
  • Experience with operating in a remote location site (desirable)  
  • Previous exposure to leading and facilitating ICAM investigations  
  • Ability to communicate to people on all levels of the workforce, and isn’t afraid of talking to large groups
