About the Role

We are currently on the look-out for motivated, experienced, and highly capable Safety Specialist to join the BHP HSE team at our Mining Operations. This is a permanent position, working an 5:2/4:3 roster, in a FIFO role, BHP supports flexible working options. we encourage applications from women, gender-diverse, and Indigenous people to join our team.

The role is based at BHP’s Mining Area C & South Flank Operations in Western Australian. Located in the Pilbara region. The Safety Specialist role within the HSE Team provides leadership, coaching and strategic direction as a subject matter expert to key stakeholders across the Operations.  

In this role you will:

  • Support line management in their accountability for HSE risk assessments, event investigations, field leadership and compliance to relevant HSE requirements;
  • Monitor the quality of HSE risk assessments, data, event investigation and field leadership.
  • Develop and deliver Health and Safety content for upskilling for the operation including contractor personnel
  • Facilitate the communication between workgroups to ensure consistency in systems, processes, procedures and goals. 
  • Support line leadership in building an understanding of, and compliance with, relevant HSE Our Requirements (GLD) and legal requirements
  • Review and monitor contractor HSE performance and supporting the execution of project HSE Management Plans.
  • Support the HSE Function with Material Risk management, WAIO wide Projects and Safety Standardisation.

About You

You will be a self-motivated professional with a solid record of accomplishment of achieving results through influence, coaching and mentoring. You will work hard, have fun and support the team to achieve our collective goals. 

You will also have:

  • A proven passion for safety and a culture of care;
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in Health and Safety (Essential)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in safety;
  • A minimum of three years experience in mining within a HSE capacity full time role (Essential)
  • Coaching and mentoring skills with a genuine desire to help people, achieve solid outcomes and support continuous improvement;
  • Ability to self-motivate, manage priorities, and consume data to effectivity deliver safety support.
  • Strong attention to detail to support safety accountability for operational teams.
  • Experience with Project Facilitation, with a team based approach and operational focus.
  • Able to Facilitate Investigations through the ICAM (Or similar methods), Timeline 5 Why and Practical Problem-Solving methods.
