About the Role

We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an experienced safety professional to join the Prominent Hill HSSEM team as a Safety Specialist, supporting our PHOX Project.

Reporting to the Safety Superintendent, you’ll play a key role in providing expert advice, coaching, and support to leaders across site, helping to drive a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.

This role is being offered on a Fixed-Term basis for 12 months.

This role is based at our Prominent Hill mine and offered on a 4:3  (Days only) FIFO roster from Adelaide or Port Augusta.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Project Delivery Team in their accountability for HSE risk management, field leadership, event investigation, and compliance to HSE requirements, including the contractor management framework;
  • Provide on-the-ground coaching to personnel and contractor partners on safety systems and practices.
  • Review the quality of HSE risk assessments, event investigations and field leadership;
  • Coach, influence and provide technical expertise to support the continuous improvement of HSE capacity and capability within the PHOX Project and contracting partners;  
  • Support line leadership in building an understanding of, and compliance with, relevant HSE Our Requirements (GLD) and legal requirements; and
  • Provide support in safety assurance and governance activities.
  • Analyse safety data to identify trends and recommend improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in and support site safety routines and meetings.
  • Deliver training on safety systems and processes.
  • Facilitate and / or Lead investigation and learning activities.
  • Champion field leadership and hazard awareness programs.

About You

You’re a proactive and self-driven safety professional with a passion for coaching and influencing positive change. You bring:

  • Previous experience in a site based construction and or commissioning safety-focused role.
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS).
  • An overriding commitment to BHPs Charter Values;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in safety, with both internal and external parties;
  • Coaching and mentoring skills with a genuine desire to help people, achieve solid outcomes and support continuous improvement;
  • Ability to self-motivate, manage priorities and consume data to effectivity deliver HSE support;
  • Strong attention to detail to support HSE accountability for function and project teams; and
  • A current South Australian “C” class motor vehicle licence or equivalent.
