About the Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Rail HSE Team as a Safety Specialist. Reporting to the HSE Superintendent – Rail, this is a unique opportunity to apply and further develop your skills and experience within a heavy haul rail operation. You will have the opportunity to coach and influence, while providing technical expertise in building capacity and capability within HSE and the Rail Operations to manage core safety accountabilities and drive, build and promote a proactive safety culture. Primarily based from Nelson Point, Port Hedland, you will be able to work across WAIO’s Rail Network, from Port Hedland to Newman. This role is being offered as Fly-In-Fly-Out (5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off) from Perth.
In this role you will:
- Participate in and facilitate HSE investigations and provide process guidance, coaching and quality review;
- Drive continuous improvement in safety performance through ongoing engagement with site leaders, encouraging and coaching quality field verifications and demonstrating expected standards;
- Provide structured upskilling of new leaders in safety capability within the growing operational team
- Through review of site and industry HSE events, encourage a strong culture of learning and embedment of safety improvements;
- Participate in risk assessments and provide quality reviews
- Support the development of effective work management tools (procedures and work instructions) that achieve positive safety outcomes
- Support accurate and transparent HSE data reporting and elements of the HSE governance program
- With the support of the WAIO Safety Team, develop an understanding of and apply contemporary safety principles in all aspects of the role
About You
This role will suit a highly capable team player who is motivated to collaborate with site and HSE teams to ensure that everyone goes home safe every day to do the things they love.
You will be a confident, self-motivated professional with experience either within heavy industry, or a similar role within a different industry . Your communication and engagement skills will be strong and you will have a solid record of achieving results through influence, coaching and mentoring.
You may have formal qualifications in Health and Safety Management, Risk Management or a related field, however it will be your attitude, character and a passion for safety that sets you apart from the crowd.
You will also have:
- Experience or a fast learner with HSE management tools
- Experience with, or the ability to rapidly understand, safety legislation
- Experience in facilitating incident investigations
- Minimum of C class Western Australia (or equivalent) Drivers’ license
