About the role
The Rail Operations team continues to expand with technological evolutions, rail safe working, and organisational changes. Rio Tinto Iron Ore are committed to having a dedicated resource to maintain, repair and troubleshoot problems faced by users which impacts training and to focus on maximising simulator reliability and minimising downtime across all RTIO simulator installed depots.
Reporting to the Project Superintendent Rail Operations and working in a collaborative and diverse team within rail operations, you will be responsible for:
- Maintain the RTIO 7 x simulators with focus on maximising simulator reliability and minimising downtime across all sites
- Conducting simulator diagnostics, planned preventative maintenance, completing minor repairs, and maintaining critical spare parts
- Managing simulator logins and providing remote support to users by troubleshooting problems when they occur
- Creation and maintenance of procedure documentation & writing simulator scenarios with assistance from Rail SMEs
- Maintaining critical spare parts and logging faults
- Provide support to all depots and be the central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders (Depots, IT, Capability & Development, Vendor -software & hardware)
- Training Sim users (upskilling, improving the agility of users, bi-monthly forums)
- Coordinate engagement with Vendor and delivery of services
- Maintain training schedule: MOCs and scenario creation (variation of complexity) that align with current rules and procedures
- Development and maintenance of Doc Control. Responsible for data storage (assessment evidence – creating, recording, and maintaining)
What you’ll bringTo succeed in this role, you will have:
- Experience in IT and simulators
- Previous rail experience with deep knowledge of simulators
- Sound attention to detail and initiative
- Ability to be flexible with travelling to various locations
- Ability to work collaboratively, within a dynamic team
- C Class Drivers Licence

Where you’ll be working
This role will primarily be based at Cape Lambert site, which is nestled in the Pilbara town of Wickham. There will be a requirement to travel across various Rio Tinto sites within the Pilbara region, in order to oversee and manage seven other simulator assets. This role is being offered as FIFO from Perth to site, on a 5:2-4:3 roster or 5:2-4:3-9:5.
