Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) is an integrated system of four processing hubs and five mines, connected by more than 1,000 kilometres of rail infrastructure and port facilities in the Pilbara region of northern Western Australia.​

Our iron ore business includes integrated iron ore mines, rail and port operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia: South Flank, Jimblebar, Newman Operations, Port Hedland Ports, Yandi, Mining Area C.

About BHP South Flank

South Flank is a greenfield mine and brownfield processing centre created adjacent to and within the Mining Area C operation. Located approximately 130km north-west of Newman, South Flank together with Mining Area C will become one of the largest iron ore hubs in the world, within reach of several billion tonnes of high-grade ore and will help maximise the volume and quality of BHP’s iron ore production, which is essential for the world’s steel.

About the Role

Reporting to the Superintendent Site Improvement, the Specialist Site Improvement will play a pivotal role within a small team committed to driving continuous improvement across all aspects of the South Flank operation, including safety, cost, culture, and productivity.

This newly created position will be instrumental in effectively implementing improvement processes to achieve critical change management processes to meet future state outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Engage to develop and support strategic solutions to South Flank Operations improvement projects.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders of Site Improvement Projects.
  • Maintain alignment between key stakeholders on Site Improvement Projects.
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure Site Improvement Pipeline is maintained in WAVE2.
  • Develop Organisational Change Management (OCM) approaches for various projects and initiatives.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor peers on Site Improvement.
  • Provide updates to Continuous Improvement teams across WAIO on behalf of South Flank Operations.
  • Develop & deploy site wide executive communications
  • Identify cross-site and asset replication opportunities.
  • Continuously improve processes in collaboration with other business units.
  • Build and maintain relationships across the business.
  • Advocate operating discipline and role model personal accountability.
  • Facilitate various workshops including but not limited to the Site Improvement Weekly Meeting.
  • Work across various levels of complexity, from leading meetings and design workshops to participating in solution definition.

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • An energetic and team-oriented approach with an unwavering commitment to supporting cultural transformation and site process optimisation efficiencies across the South Flank Operation. 
  • Demonstrated workshop delivery facilitation skills and, with a consultative and open style, you will easily encourage interactive participation across a diverse group of attendees. 
  • Demonstrated exposure to Six Sigma or similar improvement methodology, you will be confident in your ability to contribute to change management initiatives within the required framework.
  • Experience in improvement process methodology.
  • Great communicator, with a legitimate interest in writing communications using various media.
  • Organisational Management Change experience with relevant qualification will be an advantage.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Valid full Australian Driver's Licence.

Location

In this permanent full-time role, you will be based at South Flank on Fly-in-fly-out basis from Perth on 5 days’ work, 2 days off, and 4 days’ work, 3 days off roster.

Our South Flank mine is located approximately 130kms North West of Newman, West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO village include several fully equipped gyms, swimming pool, putt putt and virtual golf, squash courts, netted cricket pitch, tennis and basketball court, and recreation room including a pool table, darts, table tennis, TV and DVD player. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
