About Yandi Site Rehabilitation

Yandi’s Site Rehabilitation team engages Banjima specialist rehabilitation contractors and Banjima people through a work-ready traineeship program to deliver land rehabilitation activities at Yandi. Our activities include land preparation, planting, environmental management and the operation of an on-site tree nursery.

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to manage the daily operation of the native plant Tree Nursery and to contribute to the design and execution of our environment related initiatives for land rehabilitation, remediation and mine closure.  This is a 2 year fixed term position and will either be a FIFO/DIDO to Yandi, on 5:2 4:3 or 4:3 4:3 roster.

The Tree Nursery is located and BHPs Yandi Mine Site and specialises in native plants for the region.  The Tree Nursery is an innovative project to maximise rehabilitation outcomes and is also a part of a larger program to engage Traditional Owners in land rehabilitation activities . You will be part of a high performing and diverse team with a good culture and your key duties will include:

  • Provide specialist expertise to leadership on environment related programs/initiatives/controls to enable compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise to maximise the quality and quantity of native plant production and meet land rehabilitation goals
  • Provide input into the design of execution work packs and monitoring and reporting mechanisms (e.g. database management, monitoring stations etc)
  • Manage the daily operation of the Tree Nursery, including but not limited to:
    • Identification and execution of daily plant and Tree Nursery maintenance tasks
    • Identification and execution of monitoring and reporting requirements in the Tree Nursery and across related activities
    • Action repair and maintenance requirements
    • Manage seed and plant stock inventory
    • Design and implement production schedules to meet requirements
  • Identify, engage and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to supporting the development of trainees and BHP personnel

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:

Required:

  • An demonstrated understanding of the social and economic issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • A commitment to positively influence and shape the culture to ensure a safe, productive, sustainable and disciplined approach to work
  • A minimum of three years technical experience (e.g. environment, horticulture, site rehabilitation, land management, eco-systems management)
  • Minimum valid HR Class Driver’s licence or ability to attain
  • Post-secondary qualification/s in a relevant field  or a minimum of five years relevant technical experience

Desired:

  • Previous experience working with and mentoring with diverse personnel, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Previous experience in working with Mining areas and with community and government agencies
  • Previous experience in coordination of projects and/or programs
  • Good oral and written presentation skills
  • Good computer literacy
  • Good project planning and coordination skills
