About the Role

The Specialist Site Systems is responsible for supporting the coordination, improvement and governance of the SHMS and Risk Management System across NPI PSI (Planning, Systems, and Improvement) team. This role plays an integral part in the site’s compliance to the Workplace Health and Safety Legislation and Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulation. This position is critical for our BMA to ensure the NPI portfolio continues to support our BMA mine sites with safe operations for BMA Coal Mine Workers who require the services of Aviation, Bussing, Water, Villages and Housing Maintenance.

The role is based at CQO (Central Queensland Office) next to Peak Downs Mine on a Mon to Fri (5/2) roster with flexible arrangements for the right candidate.

Reporting to the Superintendent Site Systems, you will be responsible for executing standards and compliance, in addition you will:

  • Develop, maintain, and govern requirements for the site’s Safety and Health Management System (SHMS)
  • Maintain SHMS compliance in line with relevant legislative requirements and BHP requirements.
  • Govern our risk management requirements
  • Provide technical support to applicable SHMS access systems which support our NPI workers
  • Establish and implement a compliance schedule for the SHMS
  • Identify and lead initiatives to bridge any identified gaps, facilitate change and embed new systems to support the continuous improvement of the Safety and Health Management system.
  • Lead and participate in audits (internal and external) and provide guidance on safety and/or risk management related matters 
  • Facilitate risk assessments and develop SWI (Safe Work Instructions) and SOP (Safe Operating Procedures)
  • Assist the site leadership team and key stakeholders to improve risk management and safety on our sites
  • Comply with all aspects of NPI policies and values including BHP Code of Conduct
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe work environment, through actively participating in safety management practices & processes.

About You

You will have access to technology that will enable you to work flexibly, which is key to BHP’s success in addressing the requirements of a diverse workforce.  Key requirements include:

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent in HSE, Law, Safety/Risk, Business
  • Previous experience in carrying out risk management process and undertaking safety and health investigations.
  • Proficient in establishing and maintaining Risk Management and WHS Management Systems
  • Ability to work with a small team to execute activities and deliver business visibility across all systems and training
  • Strong business and customer orientation;
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, interpersonal and communication skill
