Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for  

Reporting to the Superintendent – Surface Operations, The Specialist – Surface operations will support the surface operations department to ensure safe and timely achievement of targeted outcomes through a focus on project management and scheduled compliance.

The specialist will be a key part of the operational readiness team with regards to the Tailings Storage Facility, with a focus on dust suppression and management. In addition, you will contribute to required weekly & monthly plans and contribute to the coordination and execution of weekly and monthly reporting.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for ensuring a safe working environment, by understanding and implementation of all site Policies, Procedures, Standards and Safety requirements.
  • Co-ordinates the activities of the Surface Operations team to ensure execution of approved plans for the achievement of targeted outcomes.
  • Coordinate and execute department Business Improvement initiatives.
  • Research, assess and recommend on new technologies that will assist the department achieve its objectives and targets.
  • Project management of allocated projects including Continuous Improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have operational experience and have exposure to dust and tailings management within a mining operations environment.

You will also possess the following

  • Experience in mining operations and earth works.
  • Tailings dam experience – Highly regarded.
  • Dust suppression and management activities experience – Highly regarded.
  • Current Dam Safety course (Desirable)
  • People Management Skills (Managing/Leading Matters)
  • Experience in scheduling and sequencing
  • Experience in Microsoft Office programs & SAP
