bout the role 

We are looking for a Specialist Surveyor to provide technical assistance, support and expert advice on mine survey activities at Brockman. Reporting to the Superintendent Operational Planning, you will manage spatial data, complete survey set-outs, support monitoring and incident response, and contribute to new survey technology and research projects. This is a great opportunity for an experienced survey professional who enjoys technical problem-solving, coaching others and improving how spatial information supports the mine plan. 

What you’ll be doing 

Reporting to the Superintendent Operational Planning, you will: 

• Capture and manage survey data from development pick-ups, batter scans, drone flights, quarterly flyovers and pit model updates. 

• Complete survey set-outs for hazards, heritage areas, buried services and other operational requirements. 

• Maintain conformance with safety, environment and quality processes, including monitoring for heritage, slopes, tailings and infrastructure. 

• Process and deliver spatial data accurately and on time for operational planning and execution. 

• Maintain and troubleshoot prism monitoring and associated survey systems. 

• Support incident response through survey of incident scenes and timely technical advice. 

• Lead research and development projects and implement new survey technology. 

• Coach survey peers and support role reviews, recruitment and capability development. 

About you

Required for Success 

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team. 

• A relevant tertiary qualification in surveying or a related discipline. 

• Authorisation as a Mine Surveyor or eligibility to obtain authorisation. 

• Demonstrated mine survey experience in an open-cut mining environment. 

• Analytical and problem-solving capability across spatial data, monitoring and survey controls. 

• Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to operational and technical stakeholders. 

Helpful for Success 

• Experience with drone surveys, prism monitoring, pit model updates or slope and tailings monitoring. 

• Experience leading survey technology trials, improvement projects or coaching other survey professionals.

Where you’ll be working 

Located 60km north-west of Tom Price, Brockman is wholly owned and operated by Rio Tinto. Opened in 2010, this open pit operation offers a family friendly fly in fly out roster with state-of-the-art camp facilities. 

The Greater Brockman Operations consist of Brockman 2, Brockman 4, Nammuldi and Silvergrass. Driving the latest technological advancements, the open-pit mines offer an avenue for opportunity and career progression.
