About the Role
BHP has an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Tailings Planner to join BMA’s Water Planning team, a group responsible for the planning of water and tailings infrastructure within BMA. As a Tailings Planner your role will support the BMA asset by forecasting the production of tailings at each BMA site and via developing and embedding the assets Tailings Master Plan. Your work will support the business to plan facility upgrades, alternative disposal processes and technical studies.
Reporting to the Superintendent Water Planning, key responsibilities include:
- Collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders to development, maintain and support the implementation of BMA’s tailings master plan.
- Analysis of data from multiple sources including production forecasts, coal processing plant instrumentation, technical reports, and spatial data.
- Assessing data integrity to assess forecast accuracy.
- Visualising the data to assist the leadership team in interpretation and decision making.
This is a full-time role which requires occasional travel to our mine sites. There is significant opportunity for professional development and is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, supportive and inclusive team.

About You
You will ideally possess the following skills and experience:
- An engineering degree.
- A background in processing, mining, water, energy or other heavy industry is desirable.
- Experience in analysis and reporting.
- Competent in communicating technical information effectively.
- Ability to compare large data sets to identify discrepancies and trends, to develop sound conclusions, and experience in reporting findings.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel for data analysis, and the ability to learn other tools as needed.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to influence and build effective relationships with a range of internal stakeholders.
- Experience in the design and/or execution of mine site closure activities.
- Experience in the design and/or management of tailing storage facilities.
- Skilled in surface water hydrology and catchment management.
- Ability to project manage and coordinate technical studies.
