We are looking for a Specialist Technical Capability Development to support our technical teams and people leaders develop the right technical skills to succeed in their current roles and grow their career within Rio Tinto Aaluminium (RTA) Pacific Operations (PacOps).

This role is essential in the deployment of RTA PacOps’ capability development strategy and requires close collaboration with RTA PacOps technical teams. You will also partner with the RTA Capability team based at our Atlantic operations.

Reporting to the Manager Capability Development you will be accountable for:
- Partnering with the Pacific Operations technical SMEs to conduct a training needs analysis that defines the technical capability requirements of our leaders and technical teams across RTA PacOps
- Developing, implementing and facilitating tailored learning and assessment solutions that are learner centric and sustainable
- Partnering with the Project Manager IPH Deployment to ensure the IPH deployment project plan is successfully met, taking full ownership of the IPH system platform implementation for RTA PacOps
- Partnering with the L&D teams from RTA Atlantic and Pacific to ensure governance and quality assurance of all IPH components including training needs analysis, training modules, skills matrix and system platform performance
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with various leaders across the business to embed the RTA and PacOps capability development strategy
About you

It is also preferable that you have:
- Awareness of the Rio Tinto operations and key skills required for talent management purposes. Whilst experience of RT operations is not essential, experience across the heavy industry, aluminium smelting and/or processing operations will be highly regarded
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to influence and adapt communication style to various audience levels, including Technical SMEs, HR Managers, peers and Executive Leadership teams
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and best practice learning design and application within an operational environment
- Understanding and experience working with learning and competency frameworks
- Natural coaching ability to support key stakeholder groups
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Curious mindset and learning agility
- Qualifications and/or equivalent industry experience in Human Resources and/or Learning
- A commitment to personal development and growth

Where you will be working
Rio Tinto is a global leader in aluminium, one of the world’s most widely used metals.
In the sector for more than 110 years, today we operate large-scale, high-quality bauxite mines and alumina refineries, and have the world’s most modern and competitive aluminium smelter portfolio.
Our Pacific Operations sites are located along the east coast of Australia, at the tip of the Northern Territory and in New Zealand’s south. With more than 6,000 employees, we operate a full value chain approach—mining, refining and smelting. Our portfolio includes four bauxite mines, two refineries, four smelters and one power station, and is supported by technical experts located in our Brisbane hub, including a fully operational Operations Centre for our bauxite mines.
You will be based in our newly renovated Brisbane Hub Midtown Offices on Charlotte Street. You will enjoy a hybrid of work from home and office-based hours. Due to the global nature of this role, the ability to partner with our Atlantic team outside of standard business hours will be required at times, though the flexibility to manage your hours of work will be offered in return.
