About the Role
We are currently seeking a Specialist Tenure & Approvals to join our Brisbane team. This is a 12-month fixed term contract working Monday to Friday with flexible working arrangements.
Reporting to the Lead Approvals (Qld) within the Land Access and Approvals, Planning and Technical function you will be responsible for assisting in the planning and coordination of approval requirements, working with internal and external stakeholders to secure and maintain the required statutory approvals and exploration and mining tenements, whilst meeting regulatory and legal requirements.
Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Ensure robust approvals strategy and associated framework to support delivery of both capital projects and Planning and Technical approval projects, and sustainability of long-term operations;
- Engage, oversee, and support tenement, land access and legislation capability across Qld to ensure tenement portfolio is accurately maintained and tenements secured;
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather specifications and analysis relating to tenure management;
- Assist in implementing the commercial arrangements associated with land, tenement and approvals within our Queensland operations and acquisitions;
- Engage with studies and resourcing engineering teams, planning and execution groups to guide through study and infrastructure project obligations on all access activities;
- Interface with support functions including HSE, Legal and Corporate Affairs teams to support access for exploration activities, and operations to support ongoing access for mining and associated activities.
- Assist the Land team when required for planning, securing, and maintaining land access approvals to support operations and enable growth within the BHP’s Queensland Coal operations;
Location
The role is located in our Brisbane office, working with the team supporting Queensland Coal operations, occasional travel to the Bowen Basin may be required.
About You
We have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values, leadership, and communication skills. Your interpersonal skills will foster collaborative working relationships and your ability to consolidate and analyse information will provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude.
Key requirements include:
- Demonstrated experience in securing mining and development approvals in Queensland (including a thorough understanding of mining, development and environment legislation and associated processes);
- Previous experience coordinating access & approval across environmental, tenement, land, heritage and/or water approvals.
- Knowledge of State legislation such as the Mineral Resources Act 1989 (Qld), Mineral and Energy Resources (Common Provisions) Act 2014 (Qld), Planning Act 2016 (Qld), Water Act 2000 (Qld), State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 (Qld) and environmental legislation including EPBC Act (Cth), Environmental Protection Act 1994 (Qld).
- Experience in managing and supporting the execution of multi-functional projects;
- Ability to support projects and programs within the business, provide advice and engage effectively at all levels;
- Demonstrated success in working effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, and ability to influence and enable others to achieve effective outcomes.
