About the role
We are looking for a Track Specialist to play a key role within the broader Rail Network Maintenance team at Rio Tinto.
The key focus of this role will be to lead a team with the delivery of minor track renewals.
Reporting to the Inland Track Superintendent, you will be responsible for:
Reporting on the physical and financial progress and issues related to the projects to ensure timely and accurate information is provided where necessary.
To facilitate all internal stakeholder, external stakeholder and interface approvals, including obtaining Environmental and Planning approvals and ensuring compliance.
Prepare Project Management Plans for approval in a timely fashion to allow adequate time to execute the project.
To lead an internal and/or external team to successfully execute projects in line with RTIO standards assuring compliance to engineering standards / performance standards.
Provide technical advice and guidance to track teams
A proven leader in safety and compliance with an approach to safe execution of track renewals activities
Manage a team including
Team member performance and development
Skillsets of the team to ensure they are capable of completing the Scope of works
Team Safety performance including event reporting, hazard identification and rectification
Record and provide project specific Q&A documentation
Strong focus on quality risk assessments for all tasks
Skilled in providing quality structured Safe starts and debriefs
Developing methodologies to improve safety and efficiencies
Ensuring all work is completed in line with RTIO standards.
Able to develop and sustain a strong safety and collaborative culture in the track renewals team
Develop execution plans and sequence the execution of track works, inclusive of all rail disciplines.
Make critical decisions to ensure operational best practice
Demonstrate Strong problem-solving skills
Experience and knowledge with construction of track and associated infrastructure:
Turnout Construction
Plainline Construction
Plainline Renewal
Re-rail
De-stress
Basic Civil Construction
Flash Butt Welding
Track resurfacing
Ability to liaise and influence alongside shutdown lead and multi disciplines including civil, resurfacing, FBW, signalling, etc.
Managing the workforce structure and resources to ensure the safe delivery and quality of works
Planning and setting up work sites for deliveries, prep work, and execution
About you
To be successfully considered for this role you will have:
Cert III Rail Infrastructure or equivalent
Detailed understanding of project management principles
Previous experience in Track renewals highly desirable
Engineering degree or background highly desirable
Current C Class Drivers Licence
Demonstrated organizational and team leadership skills
Expertise in application of track engineering principles
Comprehensive knowledge of asset management principles
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in root cause and problem-solving techniques
Exposure to a similar role, within a large complex organization within the rail / or resources industry
Ability to work in a team and safety conscious environment
Where you will be working
Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 15 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
