About the role
This role is a great opportunity for a successful individual to work in a dynamic team which is responsible for providing technical assurance and risk advisory function to the Rail Maintenance Division. Reporting to the Senior Track Engineer, you will:
- Be responsible for managing the network Track Geometry health in accordance with engineering and industry Standards, and RTIO processes and procedures inclusive of defect management and inspection compliance
- Have the ability to read track geometry charts and identify defects or areas of interest
- Identify and manage risk, determine and implement controls to manage the risk
- Be responsible for reporting and communicating the track geometry health of the network
- Analyse data to support investigations and determine repair actions
- Be accountable for generating a prioritised and optimised workbank for resurfacing ensuring that it benefits the network health and manages the network risk, that is developed utilising track geometry data and inputs from key stakeholders including the resurfacing team and Area/Section Engineers and Specialists
- Manage changes to the resurfacing workbank, maintaining the objective to provide a benefit the network health and managing the network risk
- Ensure that resurfacing scopes meet the expected outcomes by:
- Providing technical requirements that align to engineering and industry Standards
- Review and endorsement of scopes completed by others
- Complete inspections and auditing of resurfacing activities to confirm compliance to work practices, Standards, and scope
- Provide engineering guidance and support to the business including the Resurfacing Team
- Analyse performance of resurfacing activities and repair works to identify opportunities to improve safety and/or asset performance
- Manage the implementation of improvement projects
- Be required to assess the condition of the track to determine the safe operating speed in order to open the track to traffic post works and/or removal/application of Temporary Speed Restriction’s
- Contribute to the management and quality of track geometry data
- Have the Track Geometry Engineer reporting to you and be responsible for supporting them to achieve their targets and goals
About you
To be successfully considered for this role you will have the ambition to succeed whilst working amongst a high performing team. You will also have:
- Tertiary qualification in either Mechanical or Civil engineering
- 5+ years’ experience in a rail maintenance or engineering role
- High level knowledge of Railway Track Engineering concepts and principles
- C Class manual drivers’ licence

Where you will be working
This opportunity will be located at our 7 Mile Operation in Dampier, a coastal town just a short drive from the beautiful coastal town of Karratha, located in the heart of the Pilbara and home to some of WA’s most beautiful beaches.
Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 15 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
