About the Role

BHP’s US$3.6 billion South Flank is a greenfield mine and brownfield processing centre created adjacent to and within the Mining Area C operation. Located approximately 130km north-west of Newman, South Flank together with Mining Area C will become one of the largest iron ore hubs in the world, within reach of several billion tonnes of high-grade ore. South Flank will help to maximise the volume and quality of BHP’s iron ore production, which is essential for the world’s steel. You will be based at our new Mulla Mulla Village, a state of the art camp with facilities including multi-storey café, multiple gyms, swimming pool, squash courts, golf simulators and more.

Reporting to the Supervisor Training, the Specialist Trainer will be responsible for executing the delivery of training plans. In this capacity, you will be actively involved in ensuring the relevance, quality, and improvement of all resource material in addition to monitoring and increasing the competency of all personnel. This is an 8 days on 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth. Key responsibilities within this role will include: 

  • Demonstrate commitment and conformance to the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Liaise with Mining Supervisors and the Training Supervisor on Operator training required.
  • Ensure technical training is implemented as planned.
  • Ensure training materials are developed and updated in line with WAIO standards.
  • Ensure adequately skilled operators are available across all shifts.
  • Ensure training activities comply with the relevant Safe Work Procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing initiatives that contribute value to the business.  

About You

To be successful in this position, you will be a collaborative, performance focused and output driven individual with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Training and Assessing Certificate IV TAE40116 preferred, TAE40110 is a minimum to be considered for this role or be willing to work towards progressing this qualification.
  • HR licence is preferred but not essential
  • Valid Australian C class driver’s licence  

In addition, you will possess highly developed written and verbal communication skills complimented with the following demonstrated experience:

  • Experience operating large excavators and or loaders in a production environment (LBH 9400 / 996 / 9600, WA1200 or CAT 994 or equivalent preferred)
  • Experience operating large dozers such as Cat D10/11
  • Experience operating large graders such as CAT 18 / 24
  • Exposure to FrontRunner / autonomous haulage highly regarded
  • Well developed computer skills – Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Previous trainer/assessor experience preferred
  • A proven track record of safety management
