About the Role

This is a very dynamic, hands-on role, playing a critical part in building capability across our Rail Control team. Reporting to Superintendent Rail Control, your accountabilities include:

  • Facilitation and delivery of training to Trainee Rail Controllers in BHP’s Rail Control School from “street to seat”.
  • Development and review of training materials, handouts, instructional materials and manuals to ensure quality and delivery of required training outcomes.
  • Provide structured learning experiences, monitoring quality of results, and identify training needs by evaluating strengths and weaknesses at key stages of learning.
  • Periodically evaluate ongoing programs to ensure that they reflect any changes and update accordingly.
  • Participate and contribute towards training projects within the BHP Rail Control Leadership team
  • Coordinate on shift training activities for the trainees and work with the Rail Control Team to ensure their success.
  • Maintain competency records for all of our current Rail Controllers within BHP’s governance requirements.
  • Work and contribute with the “SafeWork” Team within Rail Control.

About You

To be successful in the role:

  • You will be passionate about training and possess experience as a Training Specialist or similar role, with the ability to lead a full training cycle and have knowledge of various training and teaching methods.
  • A sense of ownership and pride in your performance and a desire make a valuable contribution to the team’s success and be a key driver of quality training practices contributing towards the safe, efficient and reliable operations of BHP’s Rail Network Operations.
  • Have a willingness to learn, be able to engage and adapt to individual learning styles for trainees from various backgrounds (ranging from those with Rail Control experience to those entering Rail Control for the first time in their careers)
  • Work autonomously and ensure that training provided is within the strict Safeworking framework and regulatory requirements that Rail Control is bounded by.
  • Be computer literate (such as use of Microsoft office programs) in regard to developing material and maintaining records as per BHP Governance requirements

The following is not essential, but will be looked upon favourably:

  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TLI40116 or equivalent)
  • Certificate IV Network Control (TLI42215 or higher)
  • Experience in developing assessments and material towards a vocational certificate (mapping, developing of assessments against national units)
  • Rail Experience, particularly in a Train Control role (CTC operations)
  • Understands the regulatory requirements of the Rail Safety Act (WA) 2015, particularly regulatory SMS requirements with regard to Rail Training.
  • Aware of National and emerging trends with regard to Rail Training and recent rail accidents, particularly those involving control and communication

Location

In this Fixed Term (12 months) position, while secondment arrangement for Internal applicants, you will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.

You will be working on a Monday-Friday roster while a Flexi work arrangement is also offered.
