ABOUTGEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world's manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 Day shift roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.                                                                                                                  

As the Specialist Training, you will partner with operational leaders and teams to deliver meaningful learning outcomes, ensure compliance with the GEMCO Training Scheme, and build capability that supports safety, performance, and workforce development.

Key deliverables for the role are, but aren’t limited to:

  • Supporting crew-based trainers & assessors through coaching and guidance
  • Conducting training audits, observations, & assessments across site areas
  • Collaborating on the design, review & continuous improvement of training content
  • Monitoring LMS data & training compliance to ensure accuracy and effectiveness

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Extensive operational training experience within mining or heavy industry, with a practical understanding of competency frameworks, safety systems, and assessment processes.
  • Strong ability to coach, mentor, and engage others in learning — including line leaders, crew trainers, and contractors — to lift capability and drive ownership of outcomes.
  • Collaborative and adaptable in fast-paced environments, able to work across diverse teams while managing competing training needs with calm, focus, and professionalism.
  • Confident in using digital training platforms and reporting tools, with high attention to detail, clear documentation skills, and a commitment to training governance and compliance.

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Minimum requirement: Enterprise Trainer and Assessor Skill Set (ETASS)
  • Preferred: Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116)
  • Demonstrated capability in Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support
  • ICAM Incident Investigation Training – desirable
  • RIIRIS301A Apply Risk Management Processes (known as S1 or G1), RIIOHS301A Conduct safety and health investigations (known as S2 or G8), RIICOM301A Communicate information (known as S3 or G9).
