Rio Tinto has recently launched a dedicated team to deliver large renewable energy solutions across our major jurisdictions. Rio Tinto Energy Development is focusing on accelerating the development of future energy assets and securing high quality renewable energy development optionality. The team's focus on the provision of green energy will enable the decarbonisation of the company’s existing industrial operations and support Rio Tinto’s future growth.About the roleRTED has been established to support and accelerate the delivery of the Rio Tinto strategy. RTED will drive project delivery, with multiple renewable energy workstreams moving at pace. To advance Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation agenda, RTED will work closely with existing teams across our Product Groups and supporting functions to accelerate the delivery of renewables into the energy supply mix. To achieve this objective and to maintain future growth optionality, RTED requires Specialists with a demonstrated experience in Wind Monitoring.
The Specialist will report to the Development Manager Wind, this position is based in Perth Responsible for managing investigations , design, procurement and execution of the wind monitoring and Geotechnical campaign and assessment. This includes validation of meteorological , geotechnical and power performance data collected from Wind and Solar development sites.
- Develop a wind monitoring program to characterise, assess and forecast potential wind resources
- Develop a multi site – multi year wind monitoring program
- Rank potential developments based on gross wind resource potential, environmental constraints, technical constraints, accessibility, constructability and proximity to available grid connections
- Develop monitoring project scopes, estimates and plans to manage the end-to-end project execution
- Select appropriate resource analysis systems
- Develop and implement an effective stakeholder engagement plan and manage stakeholder relationships throughout the life of the project
- Monitor, manage and report all relevant project performance indicators to meet business requirements
- Coordinate with vendors / consultants as required and monitor performance against contract requirements.
- Wind data and Power curve verification analysis
- Provide technical support and direction to project stakeholders, building on and sharing the lessons learnt
- Manage and analyse Geotechnical Investigations and co-ordinate site works
- Identify and where appropriate implement improvements to resource assessment program and project delivery methods
About you
- Commitment to uphold Rio Tinto values and behaviours
- Wind resource evaluation including the use of associated software
- Understand how to build trust quickly within a team and maintain that trust
- Experience with Met Mast, Sodar and LiDARs
- Experience using GIS tools
- Experience in statistical meteorological data analysis
- Early works Project management experience
- Engineering background (Civil or Electrical )
- Power curve verification (PCV) or Geotechnical experience would be beneficial but not essential
