We are looking for a Specialist Zoologist to join our Biological Assessments team in Perth. The Specialist Zoologist role is a critical technical role that provides terrestrial fauna knowledge and information to support and underpin environmental approvals.

This role is a great opportunity to lead advancements in investigating and evaluating environmental values. Reporting to the Superintendent Biological Assessments, you will be:

  • Building effective relationships with internal approvals specialists and project stakeholders, biological consultants and industry experts.
  • Leading ecology projects and participating in industry research working groups.
  • Preparation and reviews of scopes of work, technical reports and associated datasets.
  • Engaging with and providing advice to internal approvals specialists on fauna values.

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Degree in zoology/ ecology/environmental science or equivalent.
  • Strategic, forward thinking competencies and demonstrated ability to deliver technical inputs to environmental approvals.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as together with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong partnering skills and ability to influence.
  • Proficient time management skills and ability to prioritise complex and ambiguous tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills coupled with an ability to think on your feet and make quick rational decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to quickly develop positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience in terrestrial fauna assessments, survey, threatened species management, environmental approvals would be highly regarded.

Where you’ll be working

Perth based but with a working focus on supporting operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, we own an integrated portfolio of iron ore assets supported by functional teams in the Perth hub: a world-class, integrated network of 16 mines, four independent port terminals, a 1,700 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure – all designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand.
