About the Role
We are currently seeking a Study Lead to join the WAAP Asset Projects Studies Group. A role that is pivotal in the successful identification and management of projects with a focus on environmental and health risk areas.
The Study Lead role brings a unique opportunity to use existing technical knowledge, business acumen and project management experience, all under the guidance and support of the Study Manager.
Project management utilises a broad range of skills including critical thinking, problem solving, effective communication, negotiation and conflict management, organisation and workload prioritisation. This role will give you the opportunity to put into operation these skillsets as you drive your Projects to successful outcomes within a safe and supportive team environment.
Reporting to a Study Manger in the Mines and Non-Process Infrastructure Portfolio, this role would be supporting Contaminated Sites projects. You will be responsible for the development of Projects through Initiation, Identification, Selection and Definition investment phases. Contaminated Sites projects can have significant investigation works in identification phase giving you exposure to management of contractors and delivery of site investigation programs often restricted to Execution phase in other portfolios.
Key accountabilities include:
- Business case development, opportunity framing, study work planning and end of phase reporting through study phases.
- Engagement with clients, stakeholders and contractors to identify and meet project objectives.
- Development of scopes of work, reviewing tender documentation and assessing submissions.
- Collaboration with Project Services including scheduling, costing, delivery, and procurement to implement, track and report Project progress.
- Development and maintenance of Field Leadership and Risk schedules to ensure project risks are identified and actively managed.
- Identify and contribute to value optimisation initiatives while integrating stakeholder requirements.
About You
There are a variety of skillsets that make a successful Study Lead, but your mindset and approach to situations that will arise is just as important.
To be successful in the role you will need to be:

- Able to lead the development of Study Specialists within the team
- Adaptable (in both thought and approach) to respond to often rapidly changing scenarios through Projects.
- Able to show initiative and challenge thinking to drive better outcomes.
- Proactive, credible and influential. You are able to communicate confidently and build strong working relationships with stakeholders.
- Respectful of others.
To meet the technical and project management requirements of the role we are looking for someone with:
- A degree in Environmental Sciences, Business or Engineering (essential)
- Demonstrated skills in effective communication and organization (essential)
- Project Management experience. A qualification in project management would be highly regarded
- Stakeholder engagement and management experience
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Report writing and presentation skills.
Location
You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower – ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.
Occasional travel to the Pilbara is required.
