About the Role
Reporting to the Portfolio Manager Strategic Growth, Asset Projects, you will be responsible for the development and optimisation of capital investments, and safe delivery of the Identification, Selection and Definition study phases. Driving performance through culture, by creating and supporting a work environment that values diversity and inclusion, you will lead an efficient, effective, and capable team of Study Leads and Specialists with deployed resources from many Functions within the business.
Key to your success will be your ability to manage, prioritise and execute complex studies in line with BHP’s Charter Values, Group-level policies and statutory obligations whilst maintaining an overriding commitment to Health, Safety & Environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Maturation of strategic growth projects through front-end engineering/study phases, which includes but is not limited to:
- opportunity framing and assessment of key value drivers.
- concept development, assessment and selection.
- economic and values-based decision making.
- risk assessment and management.
- development of work plans appropriate to the phase, key-decisions and risk/opportunity mitigation/capture.
- Partner effectively with key stakeholders and influence critical outcomes
- The ability to foster and develop out of the box thinking and design in solving complex multi-dimensional problems
- Develop and implement processes and systems to continuously improve the development of BHP’s Asset Projects
- Make full use of your broad range of skills in the areas of continuous improvement, technical knowledge, financial acumen and communication
- Support the development of the study via the functional model and in accordance with the Our Requirements and the Minerals Australia Projects Internal Standard.
- Identify and contribute to value optimisation initiatives while integrating stakeholder requirements.
- Ensure that project risks are identified and actively managed throughout project development phases.
- Implement positive communication processes to support project and operational outcomes.
- Maintain strong and transparent relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
- Provide clear and consistent project updates as per organisational routines.
About You
To be impactful in this challenging role, you are a delivery focused professional with the skills and desire to drive and deliver key outcomes through your leadership, engagement and collaboration. You will have divergent and convergent thinking skills, a strong understanding of business value and be adept at stakeholder management, utilising data and communication style to influence effectively at senior level. Your ability to manage multiple levels of complexity and ambiguity will also be a key strength in this role.

In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree qualification combined with post- graduate study in a related business, finance and/or project management discipline preferred but not essential.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high performing teams.
- An analytical thinker with the ability to manage complex change initiatives.
- Performance and achievement orientated, you work well under pressure bringing a high attention to detail and the consistent ability to meet multiple deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in a similar role within a complex, matrix organization would be highly regarded.
Location
You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues
