About The Role

An outstanding opportunity has become available for a technical, mining professional to join our team of talents in Gunnedah, as a Business Improvement Superintendent. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this role is responsible for leading and delivering capital, cost, labour and equipment productivity improvements for Gunnedah Open Cut Mines (GOC). In addition, the role is accountable for the development and implementation of the Whitehaven Business Improvement Program, developing and maintaining best business practices, improvement processes and system across site.


What You’ll Do

  • Achieve cost effective operations in accordance with business plans
  • Ensure effective allocation and deployment of capital
  • Deliver labour and equipment productivity improvements
  • Lead opportunity assessments and develop business cases with a clear value proposition
  • Identify improvement opportunities, develop, prioritise and execute improvement projects
  • Develop and maintain the Business Improvement Initiatives Pipeline
  • Oversee the development, operation and maintenance of Business Improvement systems, standards, and procedures
  • Set up the Business Improvement framework, with training and engagement to deliver on key site activities
  • Measure, manage and sustain Business Improvement projects
  • Design and implement a performance benchmarking and reporting suite to drive operational insights

What You’ll Bring

  • 7 + year’s mining engineering or relevant technical experience in open cut mines
  • Additional commercial qualifications and/or MBA (preferred)
  • Proven Business Improvement experience in the Mining or Mineral Processing Industry
  • Ability to influence, engage and constructively challenge stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of key business and industry success drivers
  • Ability to handle complexity and ambiguity, think strategically and solve problems collaboratively
  • Sound commercial acumen with the ability to relate physical activities to budget goals and constraints
