The Business Improvement team plays a key role in Yarwun’s journey to become Best Operator. In the role of Superintendent – Business Improvement, you will lead the deployment and growth of the Safe Production System at Yarwun Operations to foster operations excellence and lead critical improvement initiatives for site.

Reporting to the Manager – Operations Excellence, you will lead the Business Improvement team, and will:
- Work with the Yarwun Management Team and lead the annual definition of cascaded priorities for site, and delivery of a critical few improvement plan, as part of our improvement life cycle.
- Lead the deployment of Safe Production System (SPS), by: - Coaching and supporting the extended site leadership team in maturing existing SPS best practices. - Managing the overall program of best practice launches and existing best practice improvement through a plan-do-check-act approach.
- Developing the capability of Business Improvement Specialists to deliver and coach problem solving at all levels of the organisation, through kaizen events and practical problem solving.
- Facilitate the delivery and maintenance of site performance analytics that are key to effective daily and weekly performance rituals.
What you’ll bring
- Experience in operational or industrial environments (e.g.; in a mining, processing or manufacturing business)
- Ideally previous experience working within maintenance, engineering or large production
- Experience in a Leadership role (4 direct reports)
- Ability to effectively influence and collaborate with diverse leadership stakeholders on improvement work whilst fostering a supportive culture of collaboration and delivery
- Ability to work flexibly in an operational environment, adapting priorities and timelines to meet business needs
- Problem solving skills, with the ability to navigate both the human and technical aspects of problem solving and apply sustainable solutions to lock in improvement
- Ideally you will have experience in digital applications or at least a level of proficiency in working with complex data and developing/co-developing digital solutions
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Lean or business improvement certifications, ideally Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt
- Experience in data analysis, especially digital tools (e.g. PowerBI)

Where you’ll be workingLocated in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.
As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.
With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
