About the Role

We currently have two positions for Health and Safety Superintendents within West Australian Iron Ore (WAIO)

Reporting to the Manager HSE Business Partnering Non- Mining team this is a unique opportunity to apply your HSE leadership skills and experience within a professional and diverse team across the mining supply chain supporting operations such as Rail, Non- Processing Infrastructure Geoscience, Engineering and more. These roles are available including FIFO, Residential and Perth bases roles with flexible site travel and will be offered on permanent and fixed term arrangements.  

The HSE Superintendent provides leadership to a team or teams focused on the strategic management of health, hygiene, environment, security, safety, emergency and HSE assurance related issues, processes, provisions and initiatives across BHP. Coaches and develops team leaders and stakeholders to deliver high performance.

In this role you will:

  • Provide leadership for a team of high performing and capable HSE professionals providing support to operational and functional customers, and be an active contributor to the HSE Leadership team across the WAIO
  • Contribute the ongoing development of excellent team culture
  • Build capability within the operational leaders to enable them to create the desired health, safety and environment culture, and enact their HSE risk management and compliance requirements
  • Identify, prioritise and implement required HSE strategies and initiates to support successful operational outcomes 
  • Support the site implementation of relevant HSE Business Plan initiatives
  • Support the implementation of BHP Operating System (BOS) within the HSE team and the integration of key HSE elements within the operation’s BOS routines to achieve HSE KPIs for the operation, function and Asset
  • Govern and maintain the design and implementation of HSE standards, procedures and systems
  • Drive continuous improvement of the four safety basics across the operation
  • Ensure provision of technical expertise and deliverables of environment, health, hygiene, Security & emergency management and safety requirements
  • Work collaboratively with other HSE teams to improve HSE delivery and risk management across the Asset

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a proven passion for safety and a culture of care. You will also have: 

  • An overriding commitment to BHPs Charter Values;
  • Experience in leading teams either directly or indirectly;
  • Passion for creating an engaging, supportive & inspiring culture;
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving proactive HSE outcomes; 
  • Formal qualifications and/or equivalent experience in health, safety, environment or related discipline such as science or business;
  • Greater than 5-10 years experience within the mining and resource sector or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in HSE, with both internal and external parties;
