We are looking for a Superintendent to effectively lead our dedicated, operations capital delivery team. The team includes construction supervision, multi discipline project leaders, drafting and project controls resources.

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Operations and working in a challenging and exciting environment you will: 

  • Lead, create and maintain a climate in which individuals feel included, valued and all team members are clear about responsibilities, expectations, and objectives.
  • Utilise the business tools and activities to create development opportunities for your team.
  • Oversees the implementation of the team project portfolio and delivery of the plan.
  • Assesses project resourcing levels and leverage resources as appropriate to meet project timelines and cost.
  • Implement, refine and improve project delivery methods including the idea generation into the project pipeline.
  • Ensure compliance with standardised project processes, systems and tools across projects, including support for peers accessing capital.
  • Develop and maintain effective networks through collaborative relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Seek to find productivity and cost saving opportunities through creative contracting/consulting arrangements.
  • Support Manager in oversight of sites entire Capital Portfolio and engagement with external capital delivery service providers.

What you’ll bring 

  • A demonstrated commitment to the safety of yourself and your team 
  • A passion for developing your people and enabling their success
  • The ability to be effective in an operations environment
  • Demonstrated experience in brownfields project management
  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications is desired, alternatively significant demonstrated leadership experience of brownfields project teams
  • Familiar with the regulatory authorities and Australian Standards relating to engineering and construction practices
  • Experience in leading multifunctional site-based teams

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience in systems design of project management and/or asset management systems
  • RPEQ Status
  • Heavy Industry and or refinery experience.

Where you’ll be working

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).

Along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, our Yarwun Operation supports the local community in a wide range of initiatives through Here for Gladstone.
