ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent full-time position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Residential option to live on Groote Eylandt considered.  

As the Superintendent Capital Works, you will be responsible for leading the planning, execution, and delivery of GEMCO’s capital portfolio, ensuring compliance with South32’s governance systems, and managing a diverse team while collaborating with operations, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Develop and manage the strategy for a capital portfolio valued between $50-100M annually
• Lead the execution of projects, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and governance standards
• Foster a high-performance team culture, driving professional development and capability building
• Act as the primary liaison for stakeholders, ensuring alignment, communication, and satisfaction

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Extensive experience in capital project delivery within mining or heavy industry settings
• Strong leadership skills with a focus on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and communication abilities
• Proven ability to manage complex projects, budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation strategies

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering and/or Project Management
• Current Drivers Licence
