We are looking for a Superintendent Casting to continue the journey of supporting the Bell Bay Management Team in the safe and effective execution of all operational functions with a continuous improvement mindset. Equally as important to the success of operational functions is the leadership and coaching of all key members of the team, leading by example in a safety-focused manner that will encourage people to learn and develop whilst feeling supported.

Pacific Operations is a division of Rio Tinto Aluminium with geographically dispersed sites operating in Australia and New Zealand. Pacific Operation’s strategy is based on continually improving its cost competitiveness, ensuring the safe and environmentally sound management of its operations and the realization of the full potential of its people, technology and physical assets. Bell Bay smelter is a 100% Rio Tinto-owned smelter – operating for 68 years in Northern Tasmania.

We are looking for a Superintendent - Casting to join our highly skilled Metal Products team. Working a 9-day fortnight and reporting to the Manager - Metal Products you will:

  • Passionately lead, coach and develop a diverse team of operations personnel to achieve safety, environmental and operational objectives
  • Create an interdependent safety culture where teams feel ownership and responsibility for safety
  • Assign tasks and provide feedback and coaching to leaders and team members, which includes recognising achievements and provision of development plans.
  • Play a key role in supporting the safe and effective execution of all operations functions within Casting.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A proven record of delivering outstanding safety performance
  • A highly effective visual and engaging leadership style
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex operations teams within a manufacturing or minerals processing environment
  • The ability to coach and develop frontline leaders to be highly effective in engaging and leading their operational teams
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence, build credibility and trust across all levels of the organisation
  • The capacity to problem solve and perform root cause analysis for operational and technical critical issues
  • Come from a casting or manufacturing background – Open to all industries not just aluminium
