ABOUT IMC

Illawarra Metallurgical Coal produces premium-quality, hard coking coal for steelmaking, which is transported within Australia and around the world. We operate two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a permanent full-time position based at the Dendrobium mine, which is near the coastal city of Wollongong, NSW and approximately 75 kilometres southwest of Sydney.

As the Superintendent Compliance, you will support the Statutory Manager and broader Statutory function to ensure safe and reliable operations. In addition, you will review & maintain the Mines Safety Management System, facilitate Risk Assessments and Investigations and participate in Regulator Engagements. You will also support the Mining Engineering Manager to complete all statutory requirements.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Supervisor the Emergency Services, Control Room, Dust and Fire Officers, and Mining Cadets.
• High Risk activity notifications, Incident notifications, and exemption applications.
• Develop relationships with external stakeholders including emergency services.
• Assist the Mining Engineering Manager ensuring compliance with legislation.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Solid background working in a compliance related role or as an Undermanager in an underground coal mine.
• Experience working in or about an underground coal mine concerned with extraction of coal
• Ability to develop, coach and mentor employees to improve engagement, diversity and capability
• Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills and the ability to perform effective working relationships
• Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business

Qualifications for this position are:

• Certificate of competency to be an Undermanager in an underground coal mine.
• Certificate of competence to be a Mine Engineering Manager (MEM) in an underground coal mine, or in the process of, or planning to study towards obtaining the competency (highly desirable).
