About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent Drill and Blast to join our Greater Nammuldi Operations.

This is a great opportunity for an engaging individual to join one of the biggest Drill and Blast teams in Rio Tinto Iron Ore with 170+ employees. Drilling over 50,000m and blasting 3.5Mt per week.

Leading on the frontline is one of the most important jobs in our business and comes with a huge amount of responsibility. We need you to motivate, inspire and keep your people safe and well.

Reporting to the Manager Mine Operations and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will be:

  • An inspiring role model and coach for positive behaviours, practices and processes, whilst providing leadership, development and support to the drill and blast teams
  • Responsible for the development of a strong safety culture ensuring adherence to procedures for drill and blast operations
  • Ensuring compliance to site standards and legislation
  • Measuring, recording, analysing and reporting on all drill and blast activities to consistently achieve plan and improve performance
  • Working collaboratively and fostering relationships with other departments to achieve wider business objectives

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Proactive with a strong commitment in driving a safe working culture
  • Experience working in operational leadership roles and be confident in effectively leading, mentoring and coaching team members as well as interfacing with senior leaders
  • A desire to build and lead engaged teams
  • Demonstrated background in drill and blast operations, with strong technical skills in blasting is preferred
  • A current Australian driver's license
  • A Quarry Managers ticket is desirable but not essential
