About the role
We are looking for a collaborative leader that loves working with people and wants to build a high performing team. Gudai-Darri is a technologically advanced mine and this is a great opportunity to help drive this operation to the great success it can be.
We are seeking a Superintendent Drill and Blast to provide leadership to ensure all aspects of Drilling & Blasting operations are conducted safely and efficiently.
This role is a great opportunity for an experienced individual with a strong background in mining and excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. This position is FIFO out of Perth. Reporting to the Manager Mining, you will:
- Be responsible for the development of a strong safety culture ensuring adherence to all relevant statutory regulations and Rio Tinto Iron Ore standards and policies
- Demonstrate capability in all aspects of leading a team including but not limited to; employee performance management, training and career development
- Help to recruit your team and drive employee engagement through the application of consistent and fair leadership
- Measure, record and analyse reporting on all drill and blast activities to consistently achieve plan and improve performance
- Work collaboratively and foster relationships with other departments to achieve wider business objectives

- Drill and Blast knowledge
- Collaborative approach and positive attitude
- Proven leadership qualities and prior experience in leading and developing people
- Cost control management and budgeting experience
- Ability to work under pressure and coordinate multiple work priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- A current WA Restricted Quarry Manager's ticket
- Certificate IV or higher in Frontline Management

Where you will be working
Our $A3.6 billion Gudai-Darri iron ore mine is our most technologically advanced mine. In addition to leveraging technology already in use across Rio Tinto, such as autonomous trucks, trains and drills, Gudai-Darri also has more than 70 design innovations including a reclaimer with a rotable bucket wheel, a world class laboratory and in-field access to data and systems for all team members.
The Caterpillar mining fleet at Gudai-Darri includes autonomous trucks, production drills, and in a world first, autonomous water carts.
Located 110km north-west of Newman, Gudai-Darri will produce up to 43 million tonnes of iron ore a year in its first phase, contributing to our flagship product, the Pilbara Blend™. It will also become a production hub for our iron ore business, incorporating world class infrastructure and a 166-kilometre rail line connecting the mine to our existing network.
Gudai-Darri is creating jobs and business opportunities in Western Australia. More than 2,000 people have been employed as part of its construction with approximately 600 permanent operational roles created.
