We are seeking a skilled and motivated Superintendent Electrical Engineering to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting and assisting the implementation of asset management programs, projects, and various work engagements. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the successful execution of the discipline engineering framework, with a strong focus on safety, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
As a crucial member of the Engineering team, you will be providing engineering support to a key area of the Yarwun Alumina Refinery. This will give you the opportunity to work across a highly complex area consisting of many different elements of electrical engineering including VSD’s, motor control centres, instrumentation, control system, auxiliary equipment and improvement projects for the area. Our diverse team works collaboratively across the whole Refinery and supporting to ensure optimal support for stakeholders. There is exposure to all areas of plant including our 180MW Gas Turbine, 33kV & 6.6kV networks, 40 substations, 2000 LV motors & 15000 instruments.
Reporting to the Manager Engineering and working a 9-day fortnight, you will:
Lead a team of technical and professional roles which contribute to the identification and deployment of asset management optimisation and reliability improvements. Support and deploy effective asset management plans and objectives
Maximising the value of assets by either ensuring optimal operational management or driving returns from the asset portfolio through activities such as modelling and forecasting, and lifecycle management.
Systematically improving the performance of assets and the asset management, through analysing performance data and identifying initiatives to deliver greater value related to investments, costs and disposals.
Efficient and effective application of our asset management strategy and business plans to deliver safe people outcomes and sustainable physical assets
Provide support to the organisation and design of an effective asset management function aligning people, processes, systems, technology, measures and benchmarks.
Contribute to the development of specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely business goals to meet the asset management organisational strategy and operational plan.
Implement improvement discipline engineering solutions and strategies to ensure sustainable business goal performance and risk management
Monitor and reviews asset management process and performance, including asset health and risk.
Collaborate with Business Unit and Sites to share learnings / support replication opportunities.
Provide technical discipline support to projects and operations / maintenance functions
Implement and comply to Group discipline specific engineering standards/performance standards and associated assurance
Collaborate closely with other functions in the performance of duties.
Provide expert technical assurance advice and engineering support for the management and operation of electrical infrastructure.
Stay updated with the advancements in electrical engineering and incorporate industry best practices.
What you will bring
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar responsibilities within heavy industry
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, design, and installations including equipment such as Motor Control Centres, VSD’s, Motor Protection relays
Excellent leadership, management and coaching skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Familiar with regulatory authorities and Australian Standards relating to electrical installations and practices. QLD Electrical Safety Act, AS3000 etc.
Safety first mindset.
It will also be beneficial if you have experience in:
Power Generation
HV Distribution & High Voltage Isolation & Access (HVIA)
Control System / comms / network experience / TUV
Chartered and RPEQ
Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas (EEHA)
SAP Knowledge

Where you will be working
Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.
As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.
