About the role
Our Rail Maintenance - Rolling Stock Maintenance division has an opportunity for a self-motivated, experienced leader to join the diverse team at our 7 Mile Operation in Dampier.
As the Engineering Superintendent, you will report to the Manager Rolling Stock Maintenance and be responsible for the leadership and guidance of the RSM Engineering team.
Your daily routines and expectations will include the following:
- Manage maintenance and reliability engineering for mobile equipment including:
- Locomotives, including interface with AutoHaul
- Ore Cars,
- Brake Cars,
- Tampers, Regulators and Mobile Flashbutt Welders
- Ballast cleaner
Manage Rail Maintenance related fixed plant assets including :
- Ore car wheel machine shop
- Rail Welding facility
- Locomotive underfloor wheel lathes and drop tables
- Accountable for the development and integration of data systems supporting maintenance outcomes
- Responsible for technical engagement with OEM and component suppliers
- Responsible for development and execution of strategy to improve safety, cost and production outcomes
- Responsible for defect elimination process and asset management strategies
- Accountable for fleet condition monitoring and risk
About you
To be considered for this opportunity, you will pride yourself on your exceptional experience as an engineering leader, with Mechanical, Electrical or other relevant engineering qualification.
Ideally you will have previous Rolling Stock & operational railway experience. You will also hold some of the below attributes and experiences :
- Prior experience leading a multi-disciplined engineering team (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls & Data Science streams)
- Strong collaborator and ability to engage with variety of stakeholders
- Ability to work autonomously and manage high number of priorities
- Ability to define and execute improvement strategy
- Strong advocate for practical risk-based solutions
Where you will be working
This unique role is being offered on a 5 days on, 2 days off – 4 days on, 3 days off roster, residentially in Karratha.
This role will be based at our 7 Mile operation out of Dampier, a short drive from the heart of Karratha. Karratha is a coastal town, situated in WA’s Pilbara region, which boasts a strong ‘community’ feel.
We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,900 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
Our network is the largest privately owned and operated heavy haul rail system in Australia, and as we focus on the future, our vision is to become the greatest heavy haul railway in the world.
