Superintendent Engineering & Reliability

Work Location: Christmas Creek. Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.

Roster: 4 day on / 3 days off FIFO ex Perth.

This role will cover the Christmas Creek OPF as part of the Chichester Hub Operation. The primary role of the Reliability and Engineering Superintendent is to provide leadership to a team of Reliability and Maintenance Engineers across Fixed Plant Operations.

Fundamental accountabilities from the role are to establish and sustain key Reliability and Engineering Systems and Processes that support continuous improvement in safe and cost-effective plant reliability and supporting Maintenance Execution and the Maintenance Work Management Process. Provide leadership, direction and support for the Reliability and Maintenance Engineering team and establish an interdependent diverse culture. The role will also be required to identify and manage asset reliability risks centered around equipment life cycle and maintenance with the strategies and tactics forming a critical part of the maintenance annual planning and budgeting process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing standardised measuring, monitoring and reporting of plant performance and provide strategies and tactics to continuously improve plant reliability. The plant performance is reported on Daily/Weekly/Monthly through a number of different media engaging all key stakeholders.  
  • Facilitate/Conduct FMECA/RCA (Root Cause Analysis) into failures and provide improvement actions and monitor implementation of those actions.
  • Conditioning Monitoring & Lubrication: Responsible for ensuring that Condition Monitoring processes, including ultrasonic (as well as phased array UT) pipeline inspections, vibration analysis of rotating gear, infrared inspections, fracture/failure analysis, lubricants analysis and others are applied to accurately determine equipment condition. Responsible for implementing world class lubrication practices, tools and processes.
  • Leading a team of Improvement Specialists, Mechanical Engineers and Electrical Engineers
  • Monitor, analyse and continuously improve equipment reliability performance of the Fixed Plants
  • Develop business cases for Capital Investment purposes
  • Deliver a maintenance budget based on data analysis
  • Encourage, mentor and coach peers and colleagues
  • Generate improvement projects and drive the team to deliver these projects based on the benefit they will provide to the plants
  • Utilise Reliability processes and data to prioritise the teams work and input into the project development process
  • Participating in design reviews as a key stakeholder for plant changes
  • Optimise plant performance by engaging with all departments to drive equipment efficiency gains
  • Improve equipment expected life by analysing individual component wear and developing engineered solutions to extend life
  • Ensure the delivery of effective equipment maintenance tactics and associated documentation to align with Asset management Plans
  • Monitor and control equipment reliability performance metrics
  • Ensure management of the portfolio of maintenance improvement initiatives
  • Support equipment modifications and engaging Engineering via the Engineering Change Management process
  • Responsible for ensuring statutory and legislative compliance of relevant equipment within the operation
  • Ensure critical controls are in place for the identified critical risks within the maintenance function
  • Ensure Implementation of FMG Asset Management framework

Education and Experience:

  • Extensive Maintenance and Reliability experience within Mining Fixed Plant, Oil and Gas and/or Heavy Industry
  • Tertiary qualifications in a technical discipline, ideally Mechanical Engineering or extensive Trade background Fixed Plant experience with post graduate qualifications in Reliability or Project Management desirable
  • Experience leading and facilitating diverse teams
  • Experience in implementation of reliability engineering processes and tools
  • Demonstrated ability to select, develop, coach and mentor employees to improve engagement, diversity and organisational capability
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, connect and influence key stakeholders at all organisational levels
