Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for
Reporting to the Manager – Environment and Social Performance, the Superintendent – Environment will manage environmental and compliance requirements for mining operations at Cadia Valley Operations.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist operational departments with the identification of their risks and the robust implementation of controls.
The position will see you developing and implementing a range of environmental monitoring programs to track the site’s environmental performance in accordance with statutory approvals and business requirements. It will also include open and transparent reporting of the site’s environmental performance in accordance with statutory approvals.
We are looking for a strong communicator and influencer and someone who is familiar with working in a highly collaborative environment and can show drive and passionate enthusiasm in leading a high performing professional team!
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee safe work practices, staff work programs, professional development, and administrative requirements of direct reports.
- Ensure environmental compliance against approvals and licences.
- Oversee the development and implementation of monitoring and management plans (including monthly and annual reporting)
- Develop annual works programs and budgets and track performance against plans.
- Ensure continual improvement in environmental performance and the identification and mitigation of risk.
- Support the future approvals in liaising with stakeholders about environmental impacts.
- Arrange and oversee annual statutory reporting including the Annual Review, Environment Protection Licence Annual Return, Federal EPBC Annual Report, NGERS, NPI etc as required.
- Communication and engagement with other departments to ensure environmental risks associated with their activities are managed and controlled.
- Robust incident investigations to prevent re-occurrence.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader with a background and extensive experience in a high risk, highly complex and heavily regulated environment. You will be tertiary qualified with a degree in environmental science or related discipline.
You will also possess the following:
- Extensive demonstrated environmental management experience, preferably within an applicable industry (Mining, heavy industry or similar)
- An understanding of the NSW and Commonwealth planning, mining, and environmental legislation
- Demonstrated experience around the management of sustainability activities
- Experience in dealing with environmental approvals & have dealt with government bodies
