About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Environment Approvals & Biodiversity for Western Australian Iron Ore (WAIO), you will be responsible for managing the delivery of environmental approvals across the West Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) portfolio. In this role you will provide strong leadership to a team of skilled professionals to improve, identify, coordinate and deliver environmental approvals to support WAIO’s business plan. You will provide deep functional expertise, working with multidisciplinary teams within and external to the business to ensure relevant technical studies, surveys and supporting environmental approval documentation meet BHP, government and broader stakeholder requirements. Based in our Perth Office, travel to the Pilbara region of Western Australia will be required from time to time to support execution of supporting work and engage with external stakeholders. Flexible work options will be considered. In this role you will:
- Enable the WAIO Environmental Approvals Strategy, Framework and Standards;
- Risk management across the portfolio to delivery policy and regulatory changes;
- Facilitate effective delivery of WAIO Environmental Approvals schedule across integrated teams within the business
- Lead a team of environmental professionals to deliver State and Federal Environmental Approvals to enable business continuity through sustaining and growth projects;
- Lead stakeholder engagement with Traditional Owners and State and Federal Government Departments;
- Develop and maintain environmental approvals strategies that are aligned to, and prioritised in accordance with, broader business objectives;
- Provide strategic, tactical and technical environmental advice to approvals and project teams;
- Undertake policy analysis and contribute to legislative reform, including engagement with external agencies and industry associations; and
- Coach and mentor a team of environment professionals.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent;
- Extensive experience with State and Federal environmental approvals within the resources industry, in particular the Western Australia Environmental Protection Act 1986 and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999;
- Demonstrated ability to influence decisions and performance at both operational and senior management levels;
- Experience engaging with Traditional Owner groups on environmental matters;
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills;
- Ability to build consultative and influential relationships with a wide range of stakeholders;
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business needs; and
- Strong planning, organisational and time management skills.
