This role will provide technical overview coordination to meet corporate environmental compliance obligations in addition to functional site support to assist with their environmental performance & environmental assurance. It will also provide technical and coordination support towards major and subordinate approvals as required.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

What does your daily life look like at Yancoal?

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support and coordinate improvement and maintenance of Yancoal’s environmental compliance system and the environmental compliance performance across all sites
  • Support sites in responding to regulators in respect of breaches of environmental standards and non-compliances
  • Assist in reviews of site based regulatory environmental reporting, e.g. annual reports, incident reports
  • Coordinate and support reporting of NPI, Section 19 NGER reporting and other enterprise wide environmentally related government reporting requirements, as appropriate
  • Assist the corporate approvals and site teams with major approvals and subordinate approvals, including the development and review of environmental management plans as required
  • Draft environmental performance HSEC Committee papers as required in consultation with the Group Manager, Approvals & Executive GM Environment &External Affairs (EGM E&EA).
  • Represent Yancoal at relevant industry body working groups as relevant to environmental compliance matters.
  • Assist in the development of solutions to identified environmental problems and assist with the implementation of the solutions, as required
  • Assist the Group Manager, Approvals and EGM E&EA organise and coordinate Environment & Community (E&C) team Forums as required
  • Provision of cross functional support to Yancoal’s site and corporate E&C teams

Skills and Experience

What do you need to be successful in the role?

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Science, Engineering or Law (or equivalent)
  • Valid driving license

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional planning, organising and coordination skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent project management and analytical skills
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Ability to liaise effectively with external and internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and regulations, and mining principles
  • Government compliance knowledge and understanding

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ environmental experience, preferably with site exposure within the mining and resources sector
  • General familiarity with mining operations and environmental compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of legislative compliance frameworks, particularly NSW, QLD and WA (including NGER)
  • Auditing experience (preferred)
  • Project management experience (highly desirable)
  • Experience of engaging with government regulators and officials
  • Experience in managing consultants
