About BHP Metals Exploration
The BHP Metals Exploration team is an integral part of the global Technical Office that also spans Geoscience, Projects, Technology, Maintenance and Engineering and Performance and Improvement. Working in partnership with operations and functions, the team’s focus is to create value through technical excellence and improvement including setting the future direction of the company. With a clear strategy and focus on projects from early-stage concept development through to advanced exploration an opportunity exists for a driven and passionate Exploration Geologist to join our successful team.
About the Role
As a Superintendent Exploration Geology, your focus is to build and maintain a small, high performing team of geoscientists, and manage a portfolio of nickel and copper exploration projects, primarily in Western Australia. This key position will contribute to the selection of, and lead the technical work planning and prioritisation for, projects in the Brownfields or Greenfields portfolio.
Reporting to Manager Exploration, your accountabilities will include:
- Creating and nurturing successful working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the highest technical due diligence possible and the safe, productive project execution.
- Creating and fostering a culture within the team that permits individuals to speak up, engage and contribute to work and demonstrates the highest level of operational discipline in safety and technical excellence.
- Managing the modelling and interpretation of all geoscience data (geological, geochemical, and geophysical) to provide a transparent, defendable rank and prioritization for all projects in the Country portfolio.
- Designing effective exploration data acquisition plans that are project specific and permit the fastest route possible to a robust decision point for the next phase of a project.
- Managing delivery of working geological models at appropriate mineral system scales for exploration projects through integration of multiple datasets.
- Contributing to the prospectivity analysis of the region for nickel and copper.
About You
As a successful candidate you will possess the following traits:
- An accomplished and highly collaborative senior professional with excellent knowledge and understanding of nickel and/or copper mineral systems.
- You will be team oriented, and results focused with a demonstrated track record in mentoring and coaching others to achieve results.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Degree in Geology with post-graduate studies highly regarded.
- Extensive experience in nickel and/or copper exploration with a demonstrable track record of success.
- Proficiency in the use of geological software to develop models.
- The ability and desire to drive change management initiatives.
Location and Roster
You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues. You will be working on Monday-Friday roster. Flexible work is also offered.
