ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is a permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns or if you are seeking a lifestyle change, this is a fabulous opportunity to relocate to Groote and see what this unique location has to offer!

As the Superintendent Geological Services, you will be an integral member of the Technical Services Lead Team and a key technical leader on site. This is an opportunity to lead both Mining Geology and Exploration teams with a focus on developing team culture, capability and implementing step-change improvement initiatives across the GEMCO value chain.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Provide felt health and safety leadership to your team, managing safety and technical risks while leading contracting partners to ensure safe and efficient operations
• Ensure effective geoscience planning and execution of technical work programs across all time horizons in order to maximise value and deliver optimal resource utilisation
• Work collaboratively with operational and functional teams to deliver geoscience services across the GEMCO value chain
• Develop mine geology and exploration geoscience capability and team leadership.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Ability to develop, coach and mentor team members to improve engagement, capability and ability to work as a committed team
• Exceptional understanding of the mining value chain, maximising resource utilisation and ability to seek and apply leading resource management tools and techniques
• A cross-section of broad experience within the mining industry including production, resource definition and exploration

Qualifications for this position are:

• Degree qualification in Geology, Geoscience-related fields or other relevant disciplines
