About the roleWe are looking for an experienced Superintendent Geologist to lead a team of geoscientists that are responsible for the design and implementation of resource development programs required to shape and support Rio Tinto Iron Ore studies and mine plans. This role is a great opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary geoscience team evaluating Tier One iron ore deposits in one of the world’s great mineral provinces.

Based in Perth, but with regular site travel to the Pilbara, this role will provide you with the opportunity to:

Lead our West Pilbara Geoscience team to safely deliver resource development field programs inclusive of mapping, drilling, geophysical, geochemical and geological project work

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality geoscience work programs, interpretations and reports to achieve technical excellence across all Iron Ore deposit styles
  • Lead technical engagement with stakeholders through the lens of orebody value and risk
  • Build team capability through mentoring, development and succession planning
  • Lead and assign technical planning activities as part of annual budget and reforecasting
  • Work collaboratively within Rio Tinto to adopt best practices, new technologies and processes
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment around technical deliverables and milestones

What you will bring

As a tertiary-qualified geoscience professional, you’re comfortable guiding and leading a technical team whilst working a complex setting. You have acquired specialist knowledge of exploration and evaluation techniques – in both greenfield and brownfield settings.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Degree in geoscience or a related discipline, a strong foundation in all aspects of geoscience (ie use of geophysics, geochemistry, geological modelling), and good understanding of current geoscience best practices in data acquisition, interpretation and geological modelling
  • A passion for developing capability and building an inclusive team which values diversity of thought and experience
  • Iron Ore experience and a good knowledge of the geology of the Pilbara
  • A thorough understanding of resource development processes, from data collection, through interpretation, to modelling, and geophysical and geochemical methodologies
  • Excellent engagement skills and able to build relationships and collaborative environments with multiple stakeholders across a variety of locations

Where you’ll be working 

The Geoscience Team as part of Resource Development actively encourages and supports flexible work. This includes workdays, hours, and location, in addition to flexible and part-time work schedules. This is a Perth-based role at Central Park. Regular site travel (non-rostered) will be required in this role.
