About the Role

We are seeking a talented individual to take on a people leader role within our Governance and Technical Stewardship (GTS) Team. Working at our Port Hedland operation, we will provide you an environment where health and wellbeing are seen as a pre-requisite for safety and production. This is an exciting opportunity for an engaging, high performing professional to lead a diverse and multidiscipline technical team delivering technical direction to the business.

This professional is required to:

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Lead, coach, develop and mentor employees and graduates in a positive and proactive manner to develop and build a high performing team.
  • Cultivate positive relationships through effective communication and consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Manage and prioritise team workload to maximise value to operations and customer experience.
  • Ensure Port assets and infrastructure is monitored, assessed and controlled for safe operation.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture within the direct and broader site teams.
  • Monitor and control budgets, schedules and team performance.

About You

As part of the G&TS Team within BHP Iron Ore, the following attributes will be key to your success:

  • Collaborative and supportive leadership style with a desire to improve and develop teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to engage effectively with team members and external stakeholders.
  • Proven analytical skills and a high level of problem solving ability.
  • Demonstrated capability and commitment to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Tertiary and/or Post Graduate qualification in Engineering or equivalent experience in mining or heavy industry.
  • An open C Class driver’s license (mandatory).
  • Working knowledge of Work Health and Mine Safety & Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Experienced leading a team of engineering professionals.
  • Results focused individual who can balance pace of delivery with quality and safety.

Location

If you choose the residential option, you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia, working a 5:2 roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position, you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

If you choose the FIFO option, you will be based at Port Hedland on a fly-in fly-out 5:2 4:3 roster from Perth. Flexible working conditions will also be considered. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages include; a fully equipped gym, TV lounge and games rooms. Additionally you will have access to the state of the art aquatic and sporting facilities in the town of Port Hedland. All rooms at the villages have their own en-suite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
