Superintendent Heritage – Compliance and Operations

Work Location: Perth or FIFO

Roster: 5:2 (Perth) or 8:6 (FIFO)  

The Superintendent of Heritage Compliance & Operations is responsible for providing strategic advice to Fortescue’s Iron Ore operations, in all matters relating to Heritage protections and avoidance. Fostering robust relationships with operations and Fortescue’s Native Title partners is critical to reducing the risk of impacting Aboriginal Cultural Heritage within the Iron Ore operational footprint.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Providing leadership to the Heritage Compliance & Operations field team (Eastern Hub & Western Hub)
  • Updating and maintain the Heritage Compliance dashboard
  • Providing strategic advice to operations planning and mining teams
  • Oversee on-ground heritage non-compliance investigations, reporting through Fortescue’s Business Management System
  • Develop & implement a Zero Harm Compliance Strategy, as well as procedures and processes to meet compliance with heritage obligations
  • Ensure teams are complying with the appropriate Land Management System processes and procedures to meet compliance obligations

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role including working with Aboriginal people.
  • A working knowledge of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 (WA)
  • Understanding of the proposed AHA reforms
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and as a collaborative team member.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results while working under pressure.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to collaboratively and positively with internal and external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Highly developed administrative and computer skills Microsoft Office suite and spatial software  (Arc GIS or similar) and demonstrated ability to learn new software applications quickly.
  • Experience in data analysis, reporting
  • Desirable - qualification in archaeology, anthropology, project management or related discipline.
