Rio Tinto Energy Development (RTED) is focusing on accelerating the development of future energy assets and securing high quality renewable energy development optionality. The team's focus on the provision of green energy will enable the decarbonisation of the company’s existing industrial operations and support Rio Tinto’s future growth.

As an immediate focus, RTED is working with Rio Tinto Iron Ore to design and deliver the renewable energy required to decarbonize our Pilbara operations.

We are looking for a Superintendent Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to provide dedicated HSE support to the RTED team. Reporting to the HSE Manager within Development and Technology and based in Perth this is a full-time permanent role – Monday to Friday, with travel to project sites as required.

This is a great opportunity to play a key leadership role that directly supports and enables our transition to net zero emissions. Delivering RTED Pilbara Renewable assets projects will require a collaborative and integrated approach to HSE, and you’ll work closely with peers across our Development and Technology and Rio Tinto Iron Ore Product Groups. Externally, you'll engage with a wide group of stakeholders including state regulatory agencies, and community, civil and non-government organisations. You’ll also engage heavily with RTED contracting partners, including being involved in the evaluation of major contractor packages, ensuring work is delivered in a way that puts HSE first and fostering an authentic, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture founded on trust to consistently deliver project outcomes.

Reporting to the HSE Manger, you will be:

  • Supporting the development of HSE strategic plans, and lead communication and execution across Rio Tinto Energy Development in WA
  • Supporting Operational leaders to build their health and safety maturity
  • Supporting governance and lead improvement of internal processes and standards
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of assurance frameworks to monitor on-going compliance of operations with respect to arranged audits, inspection plans and fatality prevention
  • Providing support, guidance, and advice on safety issues at an operational level
  • Integrating contactor partners in our safety maturity journey through inclusion and empowerment

What you’ll bring

  • Extensive experience managing HSE in the development of large-scale projects, with significant contractor management & pre-qualification experience
  • Tertiary qualified in health, safety, environment, engineering, or human factors and/or organisational experience
  • Incident management and investigation experience
  • Advanced communication, influencing and engagement skills
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian HSE legislation/standards
  • Exposure to systems such as SharePoint, Excel, PowerBI, Enablon or other HSE databases / safety reporting systems
  • Demonstrated ability to execute strategy and manage change
  • HSE professional or passionate operational leader with history of strong HSE performance
  • Environment regulatory requirements
  • Experience in the assessment and management of aviation risk (not essential)
