About the roleWe are looking for an experienced Superintendent to join the Rolling Stock Maintenance team. You will have a strong commitment to safety leadership and deliver fantastic outcomes by working as part of a high performing team. The locomotive maintenance team are accountable for the primary maintenance on Rio Tinto’s locomotive fleet, both electrical and mechanical maintenance, executing scheduled maintenance and breakdown work. The Locomotive Superintendent requires transformational leadership attributes to motivate and empower team members to deliver exceptional outcomes in health and safety, maintenance excellence, productivity and innovation, and cost management.

Working 5,2,4,3 day roster and reporting to the Manager Rolling Stock Maintenance, you will be:

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the RTIO locomotive fleet and Onboard Autohaul Systems
  • Engaged in managing the strategic relationship of our commercial partners
  • Delivering maintenance efficiencies through technology, design and innovation
  • Continuing to build a workforce culture of excellence in execution
  • Setting the strategic direction for the future of our heavy haul network

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary / Trade Background
  • Operational Leadership Experience within a large operation team
  • Maintenance Execution Experience
  • A continuous improvement mindset and ability to manage and adapt to change in a highly dynamic environment
  • Ability to quickly establish effective working relationships with key stakeholders
  • High level of both written and verbal communication skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Experience managing commercial contracts

Where you’ll be working

Our Port facilities consist of four shipping terminals located on the Pilbara Coast at Dampier and Cape Lambert which form an essential part of our logistics process. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, iron ore stockpiling, product blending and ship loading.
