About the role

A new opportunity within our Rail Network Renewals team is now available as a Superintendent Major Renewals.

This role will be offered within a residential or FIFO capacity with your roster being 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off (9-day fortnight).

Reporting to the Manager, Rail Network Renewals, you will be responsible for the delivery of the RioTinto Rail Network Renewals Major Renewal Plan, managing the day-to-day construction activities of contractors on site and ensuring construction progress on schedule.

Key accountabilities

  • Direct and control construction activities on RioTinto Rail Network to ensure that standards of quality, cost, safety and performance are observed and that time schedules are met
  • Undertake construction administration and delegate responsibilities
  • Interface with other engineering functions
  • Ensure sufficient resources (plant and people) are provided on a project so that it can be delivered safely
  • Build a capable renewal team and culture to successfully deliver in line with RioTintos core values

About you

Along with a motivated mindset and proven experience in leading high performing teams, you will also have the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.

Your communication skills will be paramount in this role, with the ability to negotiate and influence.

To be successfully considered for this role, you will also hold experience in the Rail industry (highly preferred) and a minimum 5 years’ experience managing construction activities on project sites.

You will have demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands.

Where you will be working

This opportunity is being offered either residentially, in the heart of the coastal town of Karratha, with a short drive to site in Dampier at 7 Mile, or FIFO from Perth. The roster will be offered as a 9 day fortnight. We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
