We are looking for a Superintendent Materials Management to take accountability for the management of inbound and outbound freight, the coordination of repairable items including off-site repairs, inventory control and the provision of warehousing service to Rio Tinto Yarwun.

This role is a great opportunity for a passionate and self-motivated individual who has exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills. You will have the ability to work in a flexible, fast-paced environment and will need to be able to effectively prioritise your workload. 

Reporting to the Manager – Business Services and working in a diverse team, you will be accountable for:

  • The overall safety of the Materials Management team
  • Warehousing services at Rio Tinto Yarwun
  • Inventory control functions at Rio Tinto Yarwun
  • Management Repairable item coordination at Rio Tinto Yarwun

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Maintenance and Maintenance Planning experience, or knowledge of these areas
  • Experience in Materials Management for a Manufacturing operation
  • High level of SAP knowledge (Maintenance Planning, Materials Management)
  • High level of inventory analysis knowledge
  • High level of warehousing and logistics knowledge

Where you’ll be working

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
