We are looking for a Superintendent Materials Management to take accountability for the management of inbound and outbound freight, the coordination of repairable items including off-site repairs, inventory control and the provision of warehousing service to Rio Tinto Yarwun.

Reporting to the Manager – Engineering and working in a diverse team, you will be accountable for:

  • The overall safety of the Materials Management team
  • Warehousing services at Rio Tinto Yarwun
  • Inventory control functions at Rio Tinto Yarwun
  • Management of Repairable item coordination at Rio Tinto Yarwun

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Maintenance and Maintenance Planning experience, or knowledge of these areas
  • Experience in Materials Management for a Manufacturing operation or similar
  • Capability to learn software systems for inventory management or previous experience with SAP programs
  • Previous ability or knowledge of inventory analysis
  • Exposure in warehousing and logistics and knowledge of processes
  • Previous experience in a leadership role or capacity

Where you’ll be working

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
