The Superintendent Mine Development will lead our Weipa North Development Team across the Andoom & East Weipa mines, which are situated amongst three indigenous communities and operates on Aboriginal land. Considering the complexity and size of the operation, we are seeking an energetic and knowledgeable operational leader to support a team of 6 direct reports and a workforce of over 90 employees and contractors. These Teams are integral to the early clearing of our bauxite inventory and also progressive rehabilitation after mining has been completed.

This role requires a resilient and self-motivated individual to interface with a broad range of stakeholder groups, displaying credibility, building trust and influencing outcomes. You will be an expert problem solver, and have the ability to make concise decisions, most importantly committed to improving workplace culture through modelling and coaching positive work habits.
Reporting to the Northern Operations Manager and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will:
- Coach and develop Supervisors and Crew Coordinators to continuously safely improve the Development HME and fleet performance;
- Work with our mine planners and other stakeholders to ensure the development plan is optimized for our teams to safely execute.
- Provide peer support to achieve the broader Weipa Portfolio objectives;
- Identify, lead and implement productivity-enhancing initiatives;
- Drive a team culture aligned with Rio Tinto’s The Way We Work;
- Continue to integrate Critical Risk Management (CRM) and Human Performance (HP) into day to day operations and lead a safety culture of continuous improvement and safety leadership at all levels;
- Where required, effectively engage and consult with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive outcomes are achieved for all matters.
What you will bring

- Strong analytical and people skills as well as a positive attitude
- A manual ‘C’ class drivers licence
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Tertiary qualifications & experience within an appropriate discipline or background
- Understanding of the technical aspects involved, in mine operations and mine planning
- Experience using business improvement methodologies such as : KAIZEN, Lean Six Sigma and Change Management

This position is a residential role in Weipa. The successful applicant will be supported with relocation if coming from outside of Weipa and will be eligible for company housing. This position is based at the Andoom mine centre; which is in close driving proximity to Weipa Town. This role’s shift arrangement is Day work only working a 9 day fortnight with flexible options in Weipa.

Where you’ll be working
Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.Andoom & East Weipa are the historic backbone of Weipa Operations and play a pivotal agile role in supporting our other Rio Tinto Bauxite operations, Amrun and Gove. The mines are located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
