About the location

As one of Australia’s largest mines and most complex minerals processing operations, it’s quite unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well-equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Mine Development, you will lead a team supporting the integrity, safety, and performance of underground mine development at Olympic Dam. The Mine Development Engineering team supports the Mine Development operational team, providing specialist advice, analysis and benchmarking of the Development function's end-to-end performance. Through insight and innovation, you will identify and implement a portfolio of improvement initiatives that enable functional excellence and support business priorities for continuous improvement.  It is essential you can develop and maintain effective working relationships with the operations teams, project teams, and other departments. This position is being offered as 5/2-4/3 FIFO from Adelaide to Olympic Dam or 5/2 Residential at Roxby Downs.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide leadership for the Mine Development Engineering team;
  • Mentor Engineers and Specialists in the team and support the Mine Development Manager;
  • Actively support Material Risk management through Critical Control ownership, activities & verifications;
  • Assist in the management of the Mine Development budget and provide forecast updates and budget analysis;
  • Identify and deliver improvement opportunities using the BHP Operating System practices;
  • Liase with operational superintendents, coordinators and supervisors to implement improvement initiatives
  • Provide inputs and feedback to the planning team to improve future execution plans, designs, schedules and forecasts;
  • Build and maintain close working relationships with other engineering and operational functions and provide expertise when required.

About You

The ideal candidate will have the ability to effectively lead positive change and support continued improvement. You will have an absolute commitment to working safely, complying with all site safety standards, mine working procedures and ensure a safe and environmentally healthy workplace. To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor degree in Mining Engineering or other closely related tertiary qualification related to mining;
  • Significant underground mining knowledge and experience is essential;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience;
  • Thorough understanding of the mine development cycle;
  • Experience identifying, managing and implementing improvement initiatives is essential;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of customer focus and lean principles;
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to communicate effectively across all levels and disciplines;
  • Financial experience is advantageous but not essential;
  • Attention to detail and the demonstrated ability to work with data.
