About Prominent Hill

Prominent Hill is a world-class copper-gold operation within BHP's Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong and sustainable future. Located approximately 800 kilometres north-west of Adelaide in South Australia, the operation produces some of the highest-grade copper concentrate in the world.

The site is currently undergoing a significant growth phase, expanding from a 4.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) underground mine to a 7.5Mtpa operation by FY27. This expansion is supported by a major shaft project that will enhance operational capacity, improve productivity, and underpin the next stage of growth.

With mine life extended to at least 2040, Prominent Hill offers long-term opportunities for our people, communities, and stakeholders while continuing to play a key role in supplying the copper required for the global energy transition.

About the Role

As Superintendent Mine Operations, you will play a key leadership role in the safe and efficient delivery of underground mining activities at Prominent Hill.

Working closely with operational and technical teams, you will provide leadership across mine operations while supporting the successful execution of mining plans, operational readiness activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Success in this role will come from your ability to build trusted relationships, influence outcomes across multidisciplinary teams, and deliver operational results while maintaining a strong focus on people and risk management.

In this role, you will:

• Lead underground mining activities to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient operational outcomes.
• Provide visible safety leadership and actively promote a culture where everyone goes home safe every day.
• Support the execution of mine plans through effective coordination of operational, technical, and contractor teams.
• Collaborate with engineering and planning functions to optimise mine performance and achieve production objectives.
• Monitor operational performance, identify improvement opportunities, and implement practical solutions to enhance outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with site standards, QAQC requirements, mining legislation, and regulatory obligations.
• Develop team capability through coaching, mentoring, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Build strong partnerships across the operation to support business objectives and long-term success.

About You

You are an experienced underground mining leader with a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and team development. You thrive in complex and dynamic environments and bring a practical, hands-on leadership style that promotes collaboration and continuous improvement.

You will also bring:

• Exposure to large underground mining projects, including operational readiness activities and contractor management
• Demonstrated experience in underground stoping mining operations
• Degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline (desirable)
• Strong technical understanding of mine design, mine scheduling, ground support, and underground development practices.
• Experience with QAQC processes and a commitment to maintaining operational standards.
• Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to identify risks and implement practical solutions.
• Strong knowledge of Australian mining legislation, regulations, and occupational health and safety requirements.
• Proven ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, coach others, and lead high-performing teams in a complex operating environment.
• Demonstrated success in fostering a strong safety culture through open communication, visible leadership, and engagement with stakeholders.

Work Location

This position is offered on an 8/6 D/S FIFO roster from Adelaide or Port Augusta to Prominent Hill, South Australia.
